Squeezing out a 2-1 win in a game one pitching duel, the Webster University women's softball team came back for an 11-0 'laugher' in the nightcap as it swept Eureka College in a double-header on April16, at Blackburn Park. Ashley Meager (SO, Dupo HS, IL) picked up her eighth victory of the season in the opener, and Trisha Thompson (FR, Xavier Prep HS, AZ) pitched her second shutout of the season in the finale.
Meagher allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out seven, improving to 8-4 on the season. Thompson jumped to 6-3. Thompson lowered her season earned run average to 2.83 with the five-inning shutout. She allowed three hits and struck out five.
The Gorloks only managed two hits in the 2-1 win, but were aided by six Eureka walks. In game two, Webster broke out with 10 hits, Jessica Arcangel (SO, St. Lucy's Priory HS, CA) reached base three times with two walks and a single, scoring two runs. Hanna Brindisi (JR, John A. Logan CC, IL) hit her sixth home run, a two-run shot, in the third inning. Brindisi leads the team in home runs and in RBIs (33).
Webster improved to 8-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and are in second place. The Gorloks are 18-12 overall. Webster is back home on April 20 vs. Blackburn College (IL) for a double-header. They travel to MacMurray College (IL) on April 21 for a double-header.
