The Webster University men’s baseball team stayed in the thick of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference race with a sweep of Eureka College (IL), 12-0 & 9-1, at GCS Ballpark on April 17. The Gorloks are 12-2 in the SLIAC and currently are in second place.
Brandon Shaw (FR, North Fulton HS, IL) started game one, and pitched a four-hit shutout. It was the first complete game and first shutout of his young career. Shaw limited the Red Devils to four hits, while striking out 10 in seven innings. Shaw is 2-1 on the season.
Cody Stevenson (SO, Centralia HS, IL) kept his hot streak alive, going two for three, with two runs scored, and a double. Anthony Genna (SR, Lyons Township HS, IL) was two for four, with a double, and Michael Aaron (FR, Edwards County HS, IL) hit his first collegiate home run, a solo shot over the left field wall in the third inning.
In game two, Chad Rheando (FR, DeSoto HS, MO) made the first start of his career a memorable one with a win. In just his third appearance of the season, Rheando struck out 10 in six innings, allowing two hits, one run, and walked six. Quincy Berg (FR, Wilmot HS, WI) finished up, pitching a scoreless ninth.
The ‘Go-Go Gorloks’ made an appearance in game two, stealing 12 bases, and breaking double figures for the sixth time this season. Genna was one for two with two runs scored, walked twice, and had three steals. Second baseman Matt Crader (FR, Jackson HS, MO) was two for two with a run scored, and two swiped bags. Nathan Shelton (SR, Northwest HS) was two for four with a run scored and two steals also.
The Gorloks are 19-6 overall on the season and have a double-header at Washington University on April 18. Webster has a single game at home vs. Westminster College on April 20, then travels cross-town to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on April 25 for a single game as well.
