Schneider, Schaefer, Shelton Lead Gorloks Over Jays

The 'Ss" reigned as the Webster University men's baseball defeated Westminster College, 7-4, at GCS Ballpark on April 20.  Zach Schneider (FR, Warren Township HS, IL) pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs, and Nathan Shelton (SR, Northwest HS) and Craig Schaefer (SR, Cartersville HS, IL) led the offensive attack for the Gorloks.

Schneider improved to 3-4 on the season, allowing six hits and striking out seven.  He has struck out 51 in 46 1/3 innings on the season,  Schneider is part of a core of freshmen hurlers who have made their mark this season, bolstering a pitching staff that lost a lot of experience to graduation in 2010.

Shelton continues to have an outstanding senior campaign, lifting his average to .370 with a four for four performance.  Schaefer was two for four, with two doubles and two runs batted in.  Second baseman Matt Crader (FR, Jackson HS, MO) continued his hot streak at the plate as of late, going two for four with a run scored.  Crader has eight hits in his last 15 at-bats and is hitting .326 for the season.

Webster is 13-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 20-8 overall.  The Gorloks have a non-conference game at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on April 25 and are back home to host MacMurray College (IL) in a single contest also, on April 26.
