Gorloks Bounce Beavers Twice

The Webster University women's softball swept Blackburn College (IL), 7-5 and 11-0, to improve to 10-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Gorloks remain in second place, one game out on the loss side to Fontbonne University.  The double-header featured an offensive display of power as the Gorloks muscled up for five home runs.

Kaytlin Burczak (SO, Bishop McNamara HS, IL) went deep twice in the opener, doubling her season output to four.  Brandi Strowman (JR, Cortez HS, AZ) homered also, hitting her first of the year.  Ashley Meagher (SO, Dupo HS, IL) won her ninth game of the season with the complete game victory.  Meagher struck out eight Beavers in the win.

Kristie Konersmann (FR, Northwest HS) led the offense in the game two 11-0 win, blasting a grand slam and driving in five runs.  The home run was Konersmann's first of the season also.  Hanna Brindisi (JR, John A. Logan CC, IL) added to her team leading home run total by hitting her seventh of the year.  Ashley Bolton (SR, Knob Noster HS, MO), honored as one of two Gorlok seniors, was two for two.  Courtney Krekorian (Waterloo HS) was the other senior honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Trisha Thompson (FR, Xavier Prep HS, AZ), fresh off being named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time in 2011, pitched a five-inning complete game shutout.  Thompson allowed only one hit in the game, a single in the final inning.  The shutout was her third of the season as she improved to 7-3.

Webster is 20-8 overall and travels to MacMurray College (IL) on April 21 for a double-header.  The Gorloks have a double-header at Maryville University on April 26.
