Winning its eighth straight game in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and eighth overall, the Webster University women's softball team downed MacMurray College, 15-0 & 18-2, at Jacksonville, IL, on April 21.
Ashley Meagher (SO, Dupo HS, IL) won her fourth straight start in game one, and ninth in her last 10. Freshman Samantha Powers (John F. Kennedy HS) made her second start of the season in the nightcap and improved to 2-0. The Gorlok offense muscled up for the second day in a row, hitting four more home runs.
Meagher struck out eight in the five inning, complete game shutout. The shutout was her second of the season and lowered her ERA to 3.12. Jessica Arcangel (SO, St. Lucy's Priory HS, CA) was three for three with a grand slam homer and six RBIs. Hanna Brindisi (JR, John A. Logan CC, IL) homered for the second night in a row, and was three for four with two RBIs. Kristie Konersmann (FR, Northwest HS) homered as well, going two for three.
In game two, Powers had a big game at the plate as well, going three for three with two RBIs. Kaytlin Burczak (SO, Bishop McNamara HS, IL) drove in four runs and Diana Haynes (FR, Civic Memorial HS, IL) blasted her first career home run, a three-run shot.
The Gorloks are 12-2 in the SLIAC and 22-12 overall. They remain one game out on the lost side to Fontbonne University. Webster has a double-header at Maryville University on April 26 and closes the SLIAC regular season on April 30 at Westminster College.
