The Webster University softball team lost a 5-2 opener at Greenville College (IL), but came back strong in game two, winning 8-0, on April 6. Ashley Meagher (SO, Dupo HS, IL) once again was a standout for the Gorloks on the mound, winning her fifth straight decision.
Meagher pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout, striking out eight. She pitched her fourth complete game, and second shutout, as she improved to 6-3 on the season. Meagher lowered her earned run average to 3.12.
Chelsea Schaffer (JR, Lindbergh HS) was 2-3, with two RBIs in the 8-0 win. Brandi Strowman (JR, Cortez HS, AZ) was 4-6 on the day, going 2-3 in game two with an RBI, after going 2-3 in the opener.
Meghan Lokey (JR, Hazelwood West HS) struck out 10 but walked eight as she took the loss in the opener. The Gorloks are 4-2 in SLIAC play and 14-10 on the season.
The Gorloks return home of April 9 for a double-header vs. Principia College (IL) at Blackburn Park. On April 10, they travel cross-town for a double-header at Washington University. Wash U will host, and Webster will take part in a NFCA 'Strikeout Cancer' event to raise cancer awareness. There will be giveaways during both games, and admission is free.
