Headed up by shortstop Anthony Genna's (SR, Lyons Township HS, IL) selection as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, the Webster University men's baseball team had 10 players chosen as All-Conference for 2011.
Genna was batting .382, with six home runs, 46 RBIs, and 41 runs scored, heading into SLIAC Tournament play. He leads the SLIAC Champ Gorloks in HRs, RBIs, hits, walks, slugging pct., and runs scored, and is second in average. Joining Genna as SLIAC First-Team All-Conference selections are 3B Nathan Shelton (SR, Northwest HS), OF Paul Kienker (SR, St. John Vianney HS), and OF Cody Stevenson (SO, Centralia HS, IL).
Shelton is batting .357 with 29 SBs, and Stevenson set a Webster single-season mark with 39 SBs and the Webster career mark with 68. He currently ranks third in the NCAA III in steals for 2011. In addition to having an outstanding year defensively, Kienker is batting .322 and has raised his career average from .287 to .308 this season.
Named to the Second-Team All-Conference were pitchers David Mueller (JR, Westminster Christian Academy), Jason Gray (JR, North Central CC, MO), and Zach Schneider (FR, Warren Township HS, IL), along with 1B Tom Henke, and OF Craig Schaefer. Mueller, Gray, and Schneider head up an outstanding Gorlok pitching staff that is third in the NCAA III in strikeouts per nine innings (9.2), sixth in hits allowed per nine innings (7.65), and 20th in earned run average (3.11).
Henke, who was the final Diamond Sports/SLIAC Hitter of the Week selection for 2011 (May 2-8), is hitting .368 with 31 RBIs, and Schaefer is batting .344 with 30 RBIs.
Steven Dooley (SO, Florissant Valley CC) who is 4-1 with a 2.89 ERA, was named All-Conference, Honorable Mention. Shelton was Webster's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team
