Riding Zach Schneider's (FR, Warren Township HS, IL) complete game performance on the mound, the Webster University men's baseball team defeated Westminster College, 7-2, at Glik Park in Highland, IL, on May 12. The victory advanced the Gorloks in the winner's bracket of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Schneider, who had a two-hit shutout entering the ninth inning before giving up two runs, allowed four hits and struck out six,. Schneider (6-4), who was honored after the contest as a SLIAC All-Conference pick (see separate story), pitched his third complete game of the season.
Anthony Genna (SR, Lyons Township HS, IL) was the hitting star for the Gorloks, hitting a two-run homer to left-center in the seventh, and scoring two runs in the game. Genna was named the SLIAC Player of the Year for 2011 following the game. Joe Gerace (FR, Oak Park-River Forest HS, IL) drove in the Gorloks first two runs with back to back sacrifice flies in the third and fifth innings.
Cody Stevenson (SO, Centralia HS, IL) stole his 40th and 41st bases on the season. Stevenson currently is second nationally in the NCAA III in total steals, and steals per game.
