The Webster University men's baseball team travelled to MacMurray College and defeated the Highlanders, 11-1 & 11-0, in Jacksonville, IL, on May 6. The Gorloks swept the season series from MacMurray, scoring 11 runs in all three contests.
Zach Schneider (FR, Warren Township HS, IL) won his fifth game in the opener, striking out 10 in five innings of work. His 71 strikeouts on the season in 59 innings leads the Gorloks. Schneider is 5-4 and tied for the team lead in wins. Brandon Shaw (FR, North Fulton HS, IL) picked up the win in game two, striking out eight in five innings. Shaw allowed just two hits and improved to 3-2 on the season.
Anthony Genna (SR, Lyons Township HS, IL) was 4-6, with five runs scored on the afternoon. He hit his fifth home run of the season and upped his RBI total to 42, leading the Gorloks in both categories. Paul Kienker (SR, St. John Vianney HS) was 4-5, with 5 RBIs, Tom Henke (JR, Forest Park CC) was 4-6, with three runs scored, and Craig Schaefer (SR, Cartersville HS, IL) was 4-8, with four runs scored.
Webster is in first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 18-3, with a three-game series vs. Fontbonne University remaining. The Gorloks take on the Griffins on May 7 at Shaw Park in Clayton, then host a Mother's Day double-header on May 8 at GCS Ballpark. Webster has won the SLIAC regular season championship four straight seasons.
The SLIAC post-season tournament will take place on May 12-14 at Glik Park in Highland, IL.
