The Webster University men’s soccer team fell in first round action of the “Clash of the Titans,” to host Illinois Wesleyan, 1-0, in Bloomington, IL, on September 10. The Gorloks had a tough time mustering offense again, but a stout Webster defense and stellar play in goal by Alex (SR, Lutheran South HS) limited the Titans to one tally.
Cupp faced 11 shots and had six saves before leaving the game, with 10 minutes remaining in the contest, with a leg injury. Despite being outshot 12-3 for the contest, the Gorloks were tied at 0-0 until Wesleyan finally got on the board at the 18:30 mark in the second half. The match was physical as seven yellow cards were handed out, four to the Titans and three to the Gorloks,
Webster fell to 1-3 and will face Millikin University on September 11 in second round action. Webster will take another road trip on September 14 as they travel to Terre Haute, IN, to take on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
