Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win, 1-0, Over Aurora

McCaffery Scores Lone Goal, Cupp Picks Up Shutout

The Webster University men's soccer team won its first game of 2011, downing Aurora University, 1-0, on September 5, in Aurora, IL.  The Gorlok offense scored only its second goal in three games, but that was enough to pull out the win as the defense held.

Alex Cupp (SR, Lutheran South HS) recorded his first win, and shutout, of the season in goal.  He faced nine shots and had five saves on the afternoon.  Freshman Pat McCaffery (Bishop DuBourg HS) scored his first goal as a Gorlok, one minute into the second half, to give Webster the lead.  McCaffery scored on a head ball off a pass Kyle Leonard (SR, Lafayette HS), who earned an assist on the play.

Things got a little chippy in the second half as five yellow cards and one red card were handed out.  The Gorloks played a man short the final 15 minutes while holding the lead.

Webster travels to Bloomington, IL, for a pair of games on September 10-11.  The Gorloks face Millikin University on September 10, then play host Illinois Wesleyan University on the 11th.
