Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team held onto first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 2-0 win over Fontbonne University at the Soccer Park on October 23. The Gorloks improved to 6-1 in the SLIAC and with one game remaining are in a position to win their first regular season title since 2006
Shea Vogt (SR, Marquette HS, MO) started the scoring for Webster four minutes into the game with a blast from just outside the penalty box. Mike Wells (SO, McCluer North HS, MO) added to his team-high goal total, scoring his eighth of the season as he hooked a corner kick untouched into the net at the 40:00 minute mark.
Brian Woodward (SO, Eureka HS, MO) manned the nets and picked up his sixth shutout of the year. Woodward lowered his goals against average to 1.26, making two saves in the contest.
Thirteen seniors, and several players who will be graduating early, were honored for their careers as Gorloks before the contest. Sebastian Alvarez, Bret Baumann, Clint Carder, Michael Dennis, David Doggendorf, Carlos Espinosa, Adam Jones, Kyle Leonard, Jurgen Rama, Josh Sellmeyer, Adam Ullo, Agustin Villalba, and Shea Vogt were all recognized.
Webster is 10-5-1 overall and will conclude the regular season, and the SLIAC schedule, with a game at Greenville College (IL) on October 27. The SLIAC post-season tournament begins on November 1. With the win, the Gorloks clinched hosting a first round contest on Nov. 1 at the Soccer Park, with the time and opponent TBD.
