Webster Blanked Opponent in Regulation 4th Straight But Fell in OT

Gorloks Lose to Blue Jays in OT, 1-0

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team fell to 2-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 1-0 overtime loss at Westminster College, on October 9.   The Blue Jays scored with 3:00 left in the first overtime for the win.

In the first overtime session, goalkeeper Brian Woodward (SO, Eureka HS, MO) punted a clearing kick up the center of the field with just over three minutes left.  A Westminster forward was able to corral the kick and send a blast right back at the net that beat Woodward for the score.  Woodward wound up with four saves in the game.

The Gorloks, who had come into the contest with three straight shutout victories, held Westminster scoreless in regulation but couldn't punch in a goal on the offensive end.  The Blue Jays outshot the Gorloks 12-6 on the game.

Webster was without leading scorer Clint Carder (SR, DeSoto HS, MO) for the final 50 minutes of regulation and the OT as he and a Westminster player each received a red card at the 40:07 mark in the first half.  Both teams played a man short for the duration.

Webster is 6-5-1 overall with the loss  The Gorloks continue play in the SLIAC as they travel to Eureka College (IL) on October 13, and are back home to face MacMurray College (IL) on October 17 at the Soccer Park.
