Gorloks Have Title Bout After 1-0 Win Over Griffs

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team earned a place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game with a 1-0 win over Fontbonne University, on November 1, at the Soccer Park.  The Gorlok defense held once again as Webster was able to beat the Griffins for the second time in just over a week.

Carlos Espinosa (JR, Eureka HS, MO) gave Webster a 1-0 lead with his seventh goal of the season at the 21:00 minute mark in the first half.  That would be the only goal of the contest as Webster goalie Brian Woodward (SO, Eureka HS, MO) faced 12 shots and made six saves in picking up his seventh shutout of the season.

Woodward make several leaping and sprawling saves to keep the Griffins off the scoreboard.  It was Woodward's second straight shutout over Fontbonne, defeating the Griffs, 2-0, on October 23 at the Soccer Park.

The Gorloks now have nine shutouts on the year.  Webster has allowed only four goals in its last 10 contests, going 8-1-1 during that span.  Webster improves to 11-5-2 overall.

The Gorloks will face Westminster College, a 1-0 OT winner over Greenville College in the other semi-final.  That game will be November 3, at 1:00 p.m., at the Soccer Park.  The Blue Jays handed the Gorloks their only SLIAC loss this season, a 1-0 win in Fulton.  Webster is looking for its first SLIAC Tournament and its first NCAA III Championships appearance since 2009.
