Baseball Falls to Wheaton in 9th, 1-0

Box Score Ending its five-game win streak, the Webster University baseball team lost, 1-0, to Wheaton College (MA) in Winter Haven, on March 11.  Isaac Behme (FR, Harrisburg HS, IL) had his second solid start on the mound, but the Gorloks missed on a couple of golden scoring chances and the Bears broke through for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

The Gorloks had runners at second and third with one out in the sixth, and a runner at third with one out in the seventh, but could not cash in on either opportunity.  Behme pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and two walks, and striking out four.  Steven Dooley (JR, Florissant CC) took the loss in relief for Webster.

Mitchell Bonds (JR, Kankakee CC, IL) had a good day at the plate with a pair of singles, and Cody Stevenson (JR, Centralia HS, IL) was one for two, with a pair of walks.

Webster will face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY) in Leesburg, FL, on March 12, and will take on Transylvania University (KY) back in Winter Haven on March 14, after a day off.
