Baseball Puts the Bite on Transylvania, 4-2

Pitching and powering its way to a win, the Webter University baseball team defeated Transylvania University (KY), 4-2, on March14, in Winter Haven, FL.  Isaac Behme (FR, Harrisburg HS, iL) and Tom Henke (SR, Forest Park CC) both went deep for the Gorloks as Cody Hafeli (JR, Kankankee CC, IL) pitched 7 2/3 inninings to pick up the win for Webster.

Hafeli allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, and struck out five as he improved his record to 2-1.  Ryan Martinez (JR, Illinois Valley CC) relieved Hafeli with two down in the eighth, and recorded the final out with a runner at second after the Pioneers had reached Hafeli for an unearned run.  David Mueller (SR, Westminster Christian Academy) made a rare appearance in relief of Martinez in the ninth, with one one and one out, and retired the final two batters for the save.

The Gorloks took a 1-0 lead in the first as Cody Stevenson (JR, Centralia HS, IL) led off with a single, stole second and stole home on a double steal.  He took home as Henke, who had singled him to third, stole second.  The stolen bases were Stevenson's 14th and 15th of the season.  Behme launched a solo homer to lead off the second and, with an unearned run in the fourth sandwiched between them, Henke hit a solo shot himself in the seventh to complete the Webster scoring.

Webster is 7-4 on the season and 3-1 in the Central Florida Invitational.  The Invitational continues on March 15 as the Gorloks take on St. Norbert College (WI) in Winter Haven.
