David Mueller (SR, Westminster Christian Academy) threw a two-hit shutout in the opener as the Webster University baseball team swept Westminster College, 4-0 & 12-2, on March 28 at GCS Ballpark. Isaac Behme (FR, Harrisburg HS, IL) had a complete game in the nightcap. With the wins, the Gorloks sit atop the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 5-0 record.
Mueller lowered his season ERA to 1.13 with his first shutout of 2012, allowing just three batters to reach base and only one Blue Jay runner to reach second base. Mueller struck out seven in the contest as he improved to 3-1 on the season. Taylor Stoulp (SO, St. Mary's HS) provided all the offense the Gorloks needed, hitting a solo home run in the fourth, and singling in another run in Webster's three-run sixth. Stoulp was two for two, with two RBIs, two runs, a walk, and a stolen base.
Behme allowed five hits and one earned run, walking none while striking out 14 in game two. Behme is now 2-2 for the year and lowered his ERA to 2.67. Cody Stevenson (JR, Centralia HS, IL) was two for two with three stolen bases, two runs scored. He also reached base on a HBP and a walk. Alex Kazmierski (JR, Triton CC, IL) homered and singled, and had two RBIs and two runs scored. The home run was Kazmierski's third on the season, high for the Gorloks.
Webster travels to Westminster on April 4 to complete its series with the Blue Jays, then returns home on April 6 to take on Blackburn College (IL) in a single game. The Gorloks then head up to Carlinville, IL, for a return doubleheader with the Beavers on April 7.
