Box Score 2 The Webster University softball team opened up its 2012 season with a split in Jackson, MS, on March 3. The Gorloks fell to host Millsaps College, 9-1 in the opener, but came back to defeat Austin College (TX) by the same 9-1 score in the nightcap. Trisha Thompson (SO, Xavier Prep HS, AZ), got the win in her first start of the year, picking up where she left off last season.
Webster put the Austin game out of reach early, scoring a run in the first inning, and putting up a seven-spot in the second. A Kristie Konersmann (SO, Northwest HS) double with the bases-loaded was the big hit in the inning, bringing in all three runners. Konersmann was two for two, with two runs scored, with three RBIs for the game.
Thomspon, who was 9-4 with a 2.30 earned run average as a freshman in 2011, scattered five hits, striking out three, walking three, and allowing the one earned run.
The Gorloks had an opposite experience in the opener vs. Millsaps. The Majors scored in all four innings they batted, including a five-run third inning. Webster managed only three hits, with the lone highlight an RBI single by senior Tabatha Bahre (Lutheran South HS) in the fourth, driving in the Gorloks only run. Ashley Meagher (JR, Dupo HS, IL) started and took the loss.
Webster has two more games in Jackson on March 4, against the same Millsaps and Austin squads. The team heads to California for spring break to play doubleheaders against five different schools, from March 10-15.
