The Webster University baseball team made it a 4-0 weekend with two more victories on March 4, giving it a sweep of the Cavallo Classic at GCS Ballpark. The Gorloks defeated Grinnell College, 4-0 in the opener as freshman pitcher Isacc Behme (Harrisburg HS, IL) handcuffed the Pioneers for eight innings. Webster won the nightcap as well, 10-2, over Millikin University (IL), behind a solid start by another freshman, Jack Bensinger (Campbell Hall HS, CA).
Behme was near perfection in his eight innings of work against Grinnell, allowing one hit, one walk, no runs, and striking out six. Behme retired the last 22 batters he faced before giving way in the ninth inning to Steve Dooley (JR, Forest Park CC) as he won his first collegiate start.
Cody Stevenson (JR, Centralia HS, IL) was two for four with a triple, and a run scored in the win, and Tom Henke (SR, Florissant Valley CC) had three hits, including a double, for the game.
Bensinger, making his first start for the Gorloks as well, did yeomen work in six innings vs Millikin, allowing seven hits and two runs, only one earned. He struck out five and walked three before giving way to Dooley, who picked up his first save of the season pitching the last three innings.
Stevenson was one of the hitting stars again, going two for four, a triple, three runs, and two stolen bases. Alex Kazmierski (JR, Triton CC, IL) was two for four, including a three-run blast over the center field wall in the eighth. Henke had three more hits, three RBIs, and stole two bases, and Dustin List (SR, Illini Central HS, IL) was two for four with a run scored.
Webster heads to Florida for spring break for the Central Florida Invitational on March 10-16. The Gorloks don’t return home to GCS until March 24 against Principia College (IL).
