Gorlok Softball Starts 3-1 After Two More Wins

| Box Score 2 Completing a successful two-day trip to Mississippi, the Webster University softball team swept a twin-bill, beating Austin College (TX), 5-2, and host Millsaps College, 6-1, on March 4, in Jackson, MS.  The Gorloks got complete game efforts on the day from starting pitchers Ashley Meagher (JR, Dupo HS, IL) and Trisha Thompson (SO, Xavier Prep HS, AZ)

Webster defeated Austin for a second straight day, muscling up for six extra-base hits, including five doubles and a triple.  The Gorloks pounded four of the doubles in a four-run second inning, giving them a 4-0 lead.  Meagher allowed a lead-off triple and walked four in the fourth, as the Roos scored their only two runs.  She settled down afterward, scattering three hits and a walk over the final four innings to pick up her first win of 2012.

Kristin Rolla (SO, O’Fallon HS, IL) was two for four, with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored.  Samantha Powers (SO, John F. Kennedy HS) was two for three, with two runs scored, and an RBI.  Kristie Konersmann (SO, Northwest HS) had two hits also, including a double.

Against Millsaps, Thompson won her second game, allowing 10 hits and three walks in seven innings.  But the Majors could only break through for one unearned run off Thompson.  She was 2-0 in two starts over the weekend.

Konersmann was the hitting star for the game, going two for two, with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a double.  It was the Gorloks only extra-base hit after powering up for six in the opener.  Jessica Arcangel (JR, St. Lucy’s Priory HS, CA) was one for two, with an RBI, run scored, and a walk.

Webster improves to 3-1 on the season. The team heads to California for spring break to play doubleheaders against five different schools, from March 10-15.  Webster has a one-day trip to Greencastly, IN, to face DePauw University on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.  The Gorloks first games at home are on March 24 against Illinois Wesleyan University at Blackburn.
