Bolstered by a four home-run attack, the Webster University baseball team won at MacMurray College (IL), 13-3, on April 18. Ryan Martinez (SO, Lincoln Way HS, IL) picked up the win on the mound in his first start for the Gorloks.
Known mostly for his speed on offense, Cody Stevenson (JR, Centralia HS, IL) led the Webster power surge with two home runs, giving him three on the season. Stevenson leads the NCAA III in stolen bases with 39. Kevin Kojs (JR, Illinois Valley CC) made his first home run as a Gorlok an even more memorable one, hitting a grand slam. Tom Henke (SR, Lindbergh HS) hammered his fourth home run of the year to complete the Webster homer parade.
Martinez had made six previous appearances for Webster in relief before getting the call against MacMurray. With the win, Martinez evened his season record at 1-1.
Webster improved to 11-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as it held onto first place. The Gorloks are 19-9 overall on the year and next host Spalding University, on April 21-22, for a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.
