Thompson No-Hitter Aids Softball Sweep

With Trisha Thompson (SO, Xavier Prep HS, AZ) throwing her second no-hitter of the 2012 season, the Webster University softball team beat MacMurray College in a doubleheader at Blackburn Park, on April 21.  The Gorloks won game one 7-1, as pitcher Ashley Meagher (JR, Dupo HS, IL) threw a one-hitter, and Thompson's game two gem, 9-0, in five innings.

Thompson threw the first  seven-inning no-hitter for Webster, since 2007, beating Westminster College on March 29.  Against MacMurray, she only allowed one runner, on her own fielding error, and struck out five.  Thompson evened her season record at 9-9.

The Gorloks manufactured nine runs on 10 hits in the game.  On 'senior day,' honoree Hanna Brindisi (Howell HS, MI) doubled twice and scored.  Fellow senior Julie Hartung (Macon HS, MO) was one for two, with a triple that drove in two runs, and a run scored.  Tabatha Bahre (Lutheran South HS) was the third senior recognized before game one.

In game one, the sum of hits and runs allowed by Meagher all took place in one swing of the bat, as her only mistake was giving up a sixth-inning home run.  She struck out four as she won her seventh game of the year.  Danielle LaVenture (SO, Nerinx Hall HS) had the big blow at the plate with a bases-clearing triple in the second inning that gave Webster a 6-0 lead.

Webster is 10-4 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 16-20 overall.  The Gorloks regular season comes to an end on April 28 at Principia College (IL).  The SLIAC tournament will be on May 3-5 at ABC Park in St. Ann.
