Dooley Provides Relief in Win at Westminster, 4-2

The Webster University baseball team travelled to Fulton, MO, on April 5, to play Westminster College in a single game.  The Gorloks prevailed, 4-2, to improve to 6-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and sit alone in first place.  Steven Dooley (JR, Florissant Valley CC) pitched an outstanding 5 1/3 innings of relief work to pick up the win.

Dooley relieved starter Jack Bensinger (FR, Campbell Hall HS, CA) in the fourth inning with two on, and two out, and caught the Westminster batter looking at a called third strike to end the threat.  Over the final five innings, scattered three hits and two walks, while striking out seven.

With the game tied 2-2 entering the ninth, Webster rallied for two runs.  Taylor Stoulp (SO, St. Mary's HS) walked to lead off the inning and Tom Henke (SR, Forest Park CC) followed with a single.  Both runners moved up on a failed pick-off throw and Stoulp scored on a single by Charlie Gandolfi FR, Mundelein HS, IL), with Henke being cut down at the plate trying to score as well.  Gandolfi smartly took second on the throw home and scored Webster's fourth run when Mike Rainbolt (JR, Kankakee CC, IL) singled him in.

Dooley then finished his evening's work by setting down the Blue Jays in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve his first win of 2012.  Rainbolt wound up with two hits, as did Henke and Cody Stevenson (JR, Centralia HS, IL).  Stevenson stole his 31st base of the season, and leads the NCAA III in total stolen bases and number of bases stolen per game.

Webster is 13-8 overall  The Gorloks have a weekend series with Blackburn College (IL), starting with a single game at GCS Ballpark on April 6, and continuing with a doubleheader on April 7 at Blackburn.
