The Webster University softball team gained a split behind Trisha Thompson's (SO, Xavier Prep HS, AZ) one-hit shutout, 6-0, in the finale at Blackburn Park on April 6, after losing the opener to Greenville College, 1-0. Webster is 6-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and tied for second place with Greenville.
Thompson won her fourth straight game as she allowed only two runners, she walked one also, and has allowed only three earned runs in her last 26 innings pitched. The streak has lowered her earned run average from 5.93 to 4.36 in that span. It was her second shutout of the year and Thompson is 7-6 on the season.
Webster scored two in the first, three in the second, and one in the third as they built the 6-0 lead. Tabatha Bahre (SR, Lutheran South HS) singled in the second and tripled in the third, and scored both times. Julie Hartung (SR, Macon HS, MO) also had two hits in the contest for Webster.
The Gorloks were on the losing end of a pitching gem in game one as they only had two hits, one a home run by Taylor Gibbs (FR, Alton HS, IL) in the fifth inning that broke up a perfect game, a no-hitter, and shutout in one swing. Ashley Meagher (JR, Dupo HS, IL) pitched well again. In her last 28 innings, she has allowed only four earned runs and watched her earned run average drop from 10.66 to 6.83.
Webster is 10-16 overall. They will host Illinois College on April 10 for a doubleheader at Blackburn Park and resume play in the SLIAC with a doubleheader vs. Spalding University (KY) on April 13 at Blackburn.
