Mueller Shut Down Jays, Named SLIAC Pitcher of the Year

Baseball Beats Blue Jays, 11-0, in SLIAC Opener

Backed by another dominating start by pitcher David Mueller (SR, Westminster Christian Academy), the Webster University baseball team beat Westminster College, 11-0, in the opening round of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.  The Gorlok offense rocked Westminster pitching for 13 hits and 11 runs, while Mueller limited the Blue Jays to four hits.  The tournament is being played at Glik Park in Highland, IL.

Mueller, named the SLIAC 2012 Pitcher of the Year in a post-game ceremony, lowered his season ERA to 1.73 with eight shutout innings, while striking out nine.  Mueller improved to 7-2 on the season.  Ryan Martinez (JR, Illinois Valley CC), named the SLIAC Pitcher of the Week for April 30-May 6, finished up for the Gorloks, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Tom Henke (SR, Lindbergh HS), the SLIAC 2012 Player of the Year, led the offensive onslaught with a two for five day at the plate, driving in four RBIs and two runs scored.  Cody Stevenson (JR, Centralia HS, IL) was three for five, with three runs scored, two stolen bases, a double, and a run scored.

Also winning a conference-wide award was freshman Isaac Behme (Harrisburg HS, IL) who was name the SLIAC 2012 Newcomer of the Year.  Head Coach Bill Kurich was named the 2012 SLIAC Coach of the Year, his fourth time receiving the award.  Other Gorloks receiving SLIAC post-season honors for Webster were:
