Gorloks Move Into SLIAC Baseball Final

The Webster University baseball team defeated Greenville College, 6-3, on May 11 at Glik Park in Highland, IL, on May 11, to advance to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament finals.  The Gorloks broke open the game with a three-run seventh inning and Steve Dooley (JR, Florissant Valley CC) bailed starter Issac Behme (FR, Harrisburg HS, IL) out of an eighth inning jam for his fifth save of the season.

Mitchell Bonds (JR, Kankakee CC, IL) had the big hit in the seventh for Webster, driving in three runs with a bases-loaded double.  Tom Henke (SR, Lindbergh HS), Alex Kazmierski (JR, Triton CC, iL), and Mike Rainbolt (JR, Kankakee CC, IL) all singled  to open the bottom of the seventh and load the bases before Bonds cleared them.  Henke was two for four, with two runs scored, and Kazmierski was two for four also on the night.

Behme had started and pitched seven solid innings, allowing five hits, four walks, and three runs, before putting the first two Panthers aboard in the eighth.  Dooley was summoned from the bullpen and got out of the jam with one run scored.  Dooley pitched two innings, allowing one walk and striking out one.  Behme picked up his fifth win of the season.

The Gorloks will play in the championship finals at 2:00 p.m. on May 12 back at Glik Park.  They will play the winner of the Fontbonne/Greenville elimation bracket game.  A win would give the Gorloks the SLIAC championship outright and advance the team to the NCAA III Championships.  A loss would force a one-game, winner take all final that would follow immediately.
