Seventh Ranked Titans Top Gorloks, 4-2

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team met another ranked foe but fell this time as Illinois Wesleyan University defeated the Gorloks, 4-2.  The Titans, ranked seventh in the NCAA III Central Region, held off a late charge by the Gorloks.

The Titans took a 1-0 lead at 27:05, in the first, and held Webster off the scoreboard for the duration of the half.  The Gorloks broke through at the 50:41 mark in the second half as Pat McCaffrey (SO, Bishop DuBourg HS, MO) popped in a pass from Clint Carder (SR, DeSoto HS, MO) just inside the goal box.  It was McCaffrey's first goal of the season.

Wesleyan wasted little time regaining the lead on a goal 52 seconds after Carder's tally.  The Titans then increased the lead to 3-1, a scant two minutes later.  Webster made it exciting after Taylor Overstreet (SO,McCluer North HS, MO) shot in a flick from Carder, off a free kick by Jeff Wallner (SO, Eureka HS, MO) at the 73 minute mark, but despite several chances in the box, could score no more.  The Titan added an insurance goal with 16 seconds remaining.

Brian Woodward (SO, Eureka HS, MO) took the loss in goal for Webster.  Woodward was named the SLIAC Defensive Soccer Player of the Week for September 17-23.  The Titans held a 20-6 edge in shots for the contest as Woodward came up with seven saves.

The Gorloks are back in action at the Soccer Park on September 29 as they face Illinois College.  Webster will open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on October 3 against Blackburn College at the Soccer Park.
