Baseball, Behme Beat Blue Jays, 6-1

Box Score The Webster University baseball team improved to 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 6-1 win over Westminster College at GCS Ballpark, on March 28.  Isaac Behme (SO, Harrisburg HS, IL) took the mound for Webster and had a strong outing for the win as Alex Kazmierski (SR, Triton College, IL) went deep for his second home run of the season

Behme allowed one run, on seven hits and one walk, while striking out four in his seven and a third innings of work.  Behme had to pitch out of jams in both the first and second innings.  The Blue Jays led off the game with two straight singles and after a sacrifice bunt and Behme's only walk, had the bases loaded.  A strikeout and a ground out to the mound ended the threat.

The Jays did strike in the second, as Behme allowed two more lead off hits. After a sacrifice bunt, Westminster got on the board with an RBI ground out to third.  Behme would retire 14 of the next sixteen batters he faced before departing after allowing a one-out single in the eighth.

A Mitchell Bonds (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) double and a Corey Lasky (JR, College of Lake County, IL)  single tied the game in the third.  Webster then took the lead in the fourth.  Taylor Stoulp (JR, St. Mary's HS, MO) walked and, after reaching first on a fielders choice, Brett Buchanan (JR, Willowbrook HS, IL) and Stoulp pulled off a double steal of second and third.  Mike Rainbolt (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) drove in Bonds with a groundout to second, before Kazmierski hit a two-run homer onto the porch in right field.

Zach Schneider (JR, Warren Township HS, IL) made his season debut, and his first appearance on the mound since 2011, finishing up in the ninth and retiring all three batters he faced.

Kazmierski wound up one for three, with the home run, three RBIs, and a run scored.  The Gorloks pilfered seven bases, with Buchanan and Stoulp each swiping two.

Webster is 10-5 overall on the season.  The Gorloks have a busy weekend as they play a three-game set with Eureka College (IL) at GCS Ballpark.  The two teams will play a single game at 1:00 p.m. on March 29 and a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. on March 30.  The Gorloks continue the home stand as Westminster visits again on April 2.
