Box Score Turning a nine-hit attack into 15 runs, the Webster University baseball team downed Eureka College (IL), at GCS Ballpark, on March 29. The Red Devils helped the Gorloks subsidized those nine hits with 10 walks and four batters hit by pitch, and Webster maximized their offensive attack in a 15-2 win. The game was the first of a three-game set at GCS with Eureka.
The Gorloks took a 2-0 lead in the second, having five runners reach base, but only one hit in the frame. Mike Rainbolt (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) walked, Brett Buchanan (JR, Willowbrook HS, iL) singled, and Ian Foege (JR, Eureka HS, MO) walked to load the bases with one out. Cody Stevenson (SR, Centralia HS, IL) walked in one run and Corey Lasky (JR, College of Lake County) drove in the second when he was hit with a pitch.
In the third, after Eureka reached starter Steven Dooley (SR, Oran HS, MO) for an unearned run, a pair of triples by Rainbolt and Foege in the bottom of the inning led to two more Webster runs to make it 4-1. A four-run fifth that featured a two-run blast by Jared Turner (JR, Chatham Glenwood HS, IL) over the left center field wall, and a six-run sixth, highlighted by a Taylor Stoulp (JR, St. Mary's HS, MO) three-run homer to the right field porch, put the Gorloks firmly in control.
In between, Gorloks were running all over the bases as the team piled up 11 steals on the afternoon. Stevenson, the NCAA leader in steals in 2012, had five, and Lasky and Buchanan had two each. Webster had three home runs in 15 games on the season before the two round-trippers against Eureka.
Dooley went six innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and a walk, and striking out nine. He is 3-2 on the season with a 1.10 ERA.
Stoulp wound up two for five on the day, with a HR, six RBIs, and a run scored. Stevenson was on base five times, three via HBP, a hit, and a walk. Buchanan was two for three, with three runs scored, and Turner was one for three, with the HR, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
Webster is 4-0 in the SLIAC and 11-5 overall. The Gorloks will complete the three-game series with a doubleheader vs. Eureka on March 30 at 2:00 p.m. at GCS. Note that time is moved up from the original 3:00 start time. Webster will travel to Fulton, MO, on April 2 to take on Westminster College.
