Box Score The Webster University baseball team went to 18-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 6-1 win at Greenville College (IL) on April 22. With their tenth straight victory, the 10th-ranked Gorloks inched closer to clinching their seventh straight SLIAC Conference title.
Dylan Dean Smith (JR, Edwards County HS, IL), fresh off the first nine-inning no-hitter in Webster history and a SLIAC Player of the Week nod, gave up a first inning single to end any notion of a repeat performance. But Smith had another solid start, going seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk, and striking out six. He is now 4-0 on the season.
The Gorloks scored two in the third as four consecutive hitters reached on bunts. Ryan Hall (JR, Central Arkansas, MO) led with a bunt single, took second on a wild pitch, and Cody Stevenson (SR, Centralia HS, IL) followed with a bunt single as well. Corey Lasky (JR, College of Lake County, IL) laid down a sac bunt, scoring Hall as Lasky reached on a fielder's choice. Taylor Stoulp (JR, St. Mary's HS, MO) then loaded the bases with another bunt single. Stevenson came home on a Mike Rainbolt (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) ground out to make it 2-0.
Webster scored a run in the fourth when Stevenson was hit by a pitch with two out, stole second, and scored on a Corey Lasky single. The Gorloks added two more in the fifth when Rainbolt and Alex Kazmierski (SR, Triton College, IL) both reached on HBPs and Mitchell Bonds (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) singled Rainbolt in. Ian Foege (JR, Eureka HS, MO) then singled in Kazmierski to make it 5-0.
The Gorloks scored their sixth and final run in the eighth when Lasky and Stoulp had back to back, two-out, doubles to make it 6-0. Stoulp was three for five for the game with a double and an RBI.
After Ryan Martinez (SR, Illinois Valley CC) and Brett Buchanan (JR, Willowbrook HS, IL) threw a scoreless eighth, Jason Gray (JR, Oran HS, MO) extended his scoreless inning streak to 18 with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Webster is five games up in the loss column to Westminster College and Spalding University (KY), and with one more win in the SLIAC would clinch at least a tie for the 2013 Conference title. The Gorloks are 26-6 overall.
The team travels to Louisville, KY, for a three-game series with Spalding on April 25-26, and has a road game at Washington University on April 29.
