Softball Falls Twice at Spalding

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Webster University women's softball team lost a doubleheader at Spalding University, 6-3 and 9-4, in Louisville, KY, on April 27.  The Gorloks fall to 8-6 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the losses.

The Gorloks, who were limited to four hits, fell behind 4-0 in game one before rallying for three runs in the fifth to make it 4-3.  Molly Muntz (JR, Streator HS, IL) doubled to center field, driving in Kelley Bridgmon (JR, Seckman HS, MO) and Rachel Franck (FR, McCluer North HS, MO), who had reached on an error and a single.  Muntz came home on an error by the Spalding thrid baseman.

The Golden Eagles added two more in the sixth on a two-run homer as Webster went scoreless the final two innings.  Trisha Thompson (JR, Xavier Prep HS, AZ) started and took the loss.  Thompson allowed five earned runs on six hits and a walk, and struck out two.  She fell to 8-9 on the season.

Spalding jumped on the Gorloks for eight runs in the first two innings in the nightcap.  Samantha Powers (JR, John F. Kennedy HS, MO) started but took an early shower as the Golden Eagles reached her for two hits, three walks, and a Webster error, before Thompson was called on in relief.  Down 9-1 after two, Webster scratched for three more runs but wound up falling, 9-4.

Thompson wound up pitching six innings in the contest, allowing three hits, four walks, and four earned runs as she struck out nine.  Powers took the loss and fell to 5-4.

Kayla Mahoney (SR, Fox HS, MO) was one for two, with two RBIs and a run scored.

Webster is 19-14 overall.  The Gorloks play their final two regular season games on April 29 at Greenville College (IL)>
