Box Score 2 After losing its first game in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in the series opener at Spalding University, the Webster University baseball team rallied to win the final two games in the set, 9-4 and 8-5, on April 28 in Louisville, KY. Pitchers Steven Dooley (SR, Oran HS, MO) and Dylan Dean Smith (JR, Edwards County HS, IL) combined for the win in the opener and Alex Kazmierki (SR, Triton College, IL) had six hits and seven RBIs in the sweep.
In game one, the 10th-ranked Gorloks fell behind 4-1 after two innings, but that was all the runs the Golden Eagles would get as Dooley, then Smith, settled in. The Gorlok offense erupted for four runs with two outs in the third to grab a 5-4 lead. Cody Stevenson (SR, Centralia HS, IL) singled and scored on a Corey Lasky (JR, College of Lake County HS, IL) double. Taylor Stoulp (JR, St. Mary's HS, MO) and Mike Rainbolt (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) followed with walks and Kazmierski cleared the bases with a double to give Webster the lead.
Webster scored two more in the sixth when Jared Turner (JR, Chatham Glenwood HS, IL) singled and Mitchell Bonds (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) doubled him home. Bonds scored on a Ryan Hall (JR, Central Arkansas, MO) single to make it 7-4. The Gorloks would pick up single runs in the seventh and ninth but it was all elementary by then as Webster's pitching kept Spalding scoreless over the final seven innings.
Dooley went six innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits and no walks. Dooley struck out four as he ran his season record to 7-2. Smith picked up his second save of the year, giving up just one hit and no walks in the final three innings.

Lasky and Stoulp singled, and Rainbolt reached on error, with Lasky scoring. Kazmierski singled in Stoulp to make it 5-1. Max Morohashi (FR, Campbell Hall, CA) had a pinch-hit single scoring Rainbolt, making it 6-1, with Morohashi and Kazmierski moving up on the throw home. A Bonds sacrifice fly scored Kazmierski to give Webster a 7-1 advantage.
Webster tacked on a run in the sixth when Hall doubled and took third on a mishandled throw. Stevenson hit a sac fly to make it 8-1. The Golden Eagles chased starter Cody Hafeli (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) with two out in the sixth when he gave up a double and hit the next batter. Kevin Lashley (JR, St. Clair HS, MO) relieved but uncorked back to back wild pitches to score one and, after a giving up a double, Ryan Martinez (SR, Illinois Valley CC) was summoned. Martinez walked the next two to load the bases but got out of the jam without any further damage to keep it at 8-3.
Spalding would score two more in the bottom of the ninth, but Webster held on for the win. Hafeli went five and two-thirds innings for the win. He is 6-2 on the season. Hafeli allowed three runs, one earned, and gave up five hits while striking out three.
