Box Score The Webster University baseball team advanced to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-1 win over Spalding University (KY) on May 10, at Glik Park, in Highland, IL. Sophomore Isaac Behme (Harrisburg HS, IL) threw a complete game for the win for the Gorloks.
Behme allowed six hits, one walk, and one run, in nine innings of work. He struck out four while improving to 8-3 on the year, tying Steven Dooley (SR, Oran HS, MO) for the team lead in wins.
Spalding took a 1-0 lead with its only runin the contest in the top of the third inning. Webster came right back and scored three to make it 3-1. Ryan Hall (JR, Central Arkansas, MO) led off with a bunt single and Cody Stevenson (SR, Centralia HS, IL) followed with a single. With two down, Taylor Stoulp (JR, St. Mary's HS, MO) and Mike Rainbolt (SR, Kankakee CC, IL) had RBI line drive singles to right field to make it 2-1. Alex Kazmierski (SR, Triton College, IL) drove in the third run of the inning with a groundout, making it 3-1 Gorloks.
Webster added two more in the eighth. Brett Buchanan (JR, Willowbrook HS, IL) led off with an infield hit, was sacrificed to second by Mitchell Bonds (SR, Kankakee CC, IL), and moved to third on an Ian Foege (JR, Eureka HS, MO) single. Hall laid down a squeeze bunt for an infield single, coring Buchanan. Corey Lasky (JR, College of Lake County, IL) drove in Foege with a single to make it 5-1.
Stoulp was two for five, with a run scored and an RBI. Hall was two for four, with a run scored and an RBI, and Bonds was two for two, also reaching on a walk.
Webster improves to 31-8 with the win. The Gorloks will play Spalding game, on May 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Glik Park in the championship. A win gives Webster the championship, a loss would force a second game, winner take all.
