Webster Goes Extra Time Again

Team Undefeated After Two Games, First Time since 2004

Box Score For the second consecutive day, Webster University men's soccer team played extra time and came away with an unbeaten mark. Tonight, the Gorloks went to double overtime in a 2-2 tie at Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Combined with yesterday's double overtime win, Webster (1-0-1) is undefeated after two games for the first time since 2004 when it started 2-0.
 
Freshman Jamie Lawrence (Florissant, MO / Hazelwood West) scored his second goal of the season at the 64-minute mark to give Webster a 2-0 lead in the second half. Another freshman, BJ Dwyer (St. Louis, MO / Pattonville) tallied for Webster 17 minutes into the first half on an assist from junior Josh Papes (St. Louis, MO / McCluer North).
 
Webster junior goalie Brian Woodward (Eureka, MO / Eureka) made six saves to preserve the tie.
 
Illinois Wesleyan rallied with goals in 67th and 83rd minute to force extra time. The home team was 50th in the nation in NCAA Division III pre-season rankings by BennettRanking.com.
 
The Gorloks return to action Wednesday (Sept. 4) at Illinois College at 5 pm.
