Box Score Webster University men's soccer team held two separate leads but was not able to hold on in its home opener, losing 3-2 to undefeated Missouri Baptist University.
Â
Webster grabbed an early 1-0 lead on freshman forward BJ Dryer's third goal of the season. Junior midfielder Mike Wells (St. Louis, MO / McCluer North) drilled a corner kick across the box, which was headed down by junior defender Russ Giglio (Chesterfield, MO / DeSmet). Dryer (St. Louis, MO / Pattonville) blasted a shot into the top-left corner of the net to give the Gorloks an early advantage.
Â
Three minutes after halftime, Webster once again scored off a corner kick. Wells curled his corner-kick attempt toward the opposing goalie who was unable to redirect the ball off target. It was the second time in Wells' Webster career that he has scored directly from the corner-kick spot. Wells' goal was his third of the season and gave the Gorloks a 2-1 edge.

Missouri Baptist (5-0-1), an NAIA school, scored two goals midway through the second half to earn the win. Webster fell to 3-2-3 with the loss. The match was Webster's home opener, as the Gorloks played their first seven contests of the 2013 season on the road.
