Stieb Scores Sudden-Death Goal in Second OT

Box Score

Jacob Stieb (JR, Highland, IL / SWIC) scored with just under four minutes remaining in the second overtime period to give the Webster University men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Coe College (IA). Stieb's first goal as a Gorlok made Webster a sudden-death winner at the Soccer Park on September 22.

Webster was awarded a free kick about 30 yards from the opposing goal. Junior midfielder Mike Wells (St. Louis, MO / McCluer North) swung a left-footed cross into the box. On his first touch, Stieb redirected the ball over the goalkeeper's head and the Gorlok players swarmed Stieb in celebration.

The victory today (Sept. 22) at St. Louis Soccer Park was Webster's second 1-0 win in as many days. The Gorloks defeated Augustana (Ill.) 1-0 on a second-half goal by Wells yesterday (Sept. 21).

Webster outshot the visitors 17-15 for the game and 6-2 during the overtime periods. Junior goalkeeper Brian Woodward (Eureka, MO / Eureka) made five saves. The shutout was his second in a row and third of the season.

With the victory, the Gorloks improve to 5-2-3 overall. Next up for Webster is its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Eureka (Ill.). That game kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 28) at Soccer Park.
