Gorloks Tally Season-High Five Goals

Box Score Webster University scored four unanswered goals in the second half to beat Rhodes College (Tenn.), 5-2, in a road contest.

The five goals is a season-high, almost as many goals (six) as the Gorloks had in their previous four games this season. The last time Webster scored five goals in a game was against MacMurray (Ill.) Oct. 17, 2012.

Webster, under first-year head coach Mike Siener, remains unbeaten with a 3-0-2 season record. Siener was the Gorloks' associate head coach for the past two seasons. This is the first time since 1999, Siener's senior year at Webster, that the team is unbeaten after five games.

Freshman Brendan Shields (St. Peters, MO / Fort Zumwalt East) scored the first two goals of his collegiate career. The last Webster player to score two goals in a game was Patrick McCaffrey against MacMurray (Ill.) in a 2-0 win in the conference title game November 3, 2012.

McCaffrey scored the winning goal in today's contest at the 58-minute mark. This is the third consecutive game that he has scored a goal. He leads the team in goals (3) and points (7).

Other goal scorers were juniors Mike Wells (St. Louis, MO / McCluer North) and Jeff Wallner (Eureka, MO / Eureka).

The Gorloks outshot the home team, 28-17. This is Webster's second consecutive win against Rhodes following a 2-0 home win last year.

Webster's next game is Wednesday (Sept. 11) at Washington University in St. Louis. Game time is 7:30 pm.
