Box Score 2 Completing a weekend sweep in Louisville, KY, the Webster University volleyball team defeated both MacMurray College (IL) and Blackburn College (IL), 3-0, on October 18. With the wins, the Gorloks have won ten straight in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, and are 13-2 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks had defeated host Spalding University, 3-2, the previous evening.
The Gorloks won the opening match of the day, defeating MacMurray, 25-15, 25-6, and 25-17. Rachel Nelson (JR, Papillion, NE/Papillion LaVista-South HS) had 12 kills, one solo block, and an ace, and Jenny Howard (SR, Florissant, MO/Duchesne HS) had eight kills and five digs. Sam Kersting (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh HS) and Kristen McDowell (SR, Staunton, IL/Staunton HS) each had six kills.
In the win over Blackburn, the Gorloks won 25-16, 25-9, and 25-11. Webster utilized 18 players in the match as Howard had six kills, and Kersting and McDowell each had a solo block and four block assists. Nelson and Abbie Pfeiffer (SO, Springfield, IL/Lutheran HS) each had four kills, and Emi Beining (FR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) and Andrea Dwiggins (SR, St. Charles, MO/St. Charles HS) each had three kills against the Beavers. Allie O'Toole led Webster with nine digs and Emma Cabutti (JR, Mahomet, IL/Mahomet-Seymour HS) had seven.
With nine kills in the two matches, Kersting has 876 on her career at Webster, which moves her into seventh place on the Gorloks' all-time high list.
Webster is 17-8 on the season overall. The Gorloks will play in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Tournament on October 24-25. The team will face the host school, Clarke University (IA), Loras College (IA), and Wisconsin-River Falls, to close out their non-conference schedule.
