Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team stayed unbeaten in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 win over Blackburn College, on October 25, at the Soccer Park. On Senior Day, the Gorloks improved to 6-0-1 in the SLIAC, and coupled with a loss by Fontbonne University (6-1) at Spalding University (KY), took over sole possession of first place.
The Gorloks are unbeaten in their last six games, and recorded their fourth straight shutout, this one with senior Brian Woodward (Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) in the nets. For Woodward it was his Webster career record 27th win, and his 15th career solo shutout. Woodward made three saves in the contest as the Beavers took seven shots.
After a scoreless first half against the Beavers, the Gorlok offense came alive in the second half. Webster got goals from Brendan Shields (JR, St. Peter;s, MO/Ft. Zumwalt East HS), and seniors Jeff Wallner (Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) and Russ Giglio (St. Louis, MO/DeSmet Jesuit HS). Wallner and Giglio's goals were their first of the season. Webster outshot Blackburn, 31-7 on the afternoon.
Fifteen seniors were honored before the contest, including seven team members that played all four years at Webster. Those honored included: Kris Brown (Wenztville, MO/Holt HS), Tyler Brown (Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS), Cody Dupree (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh HS), Giglio, Mark McHugh (Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS), Ian McReynolds (Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS), Taylor Overstreet (Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS, Justin Peters (Wentzville, MO/Holt HS), Carlton Poindexter (Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS), Jacob Stieb (Highland, IL/Highland HS), Wallner, Mike Wells (Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS), and Woodward.
Webster evened their season record at 8-8-2 overall. The Gorloks travel to Greenville College on October 28 to face the Panthers, then close out the regular season at home vs. Fontbonne University on November 1 at the Soccer Park.
