Volleyball Finishes Oshkosh Invite W/ Win Over River Falls

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Webster University volleyball team finished the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational by splitting  two matches on October 25, in Oshkosh, WI.  The Gorloks fell to Loras College (IA), 3-2, losing in a tie-breaker set, and defeated the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, in straight sets, 3-0.

Loras, a member of the  Iowa  Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, defeated Webster, 25-17, 18-25, 13-25, 25-21, 15-11.  After dropping the first set, the Gorloks took a 2-1 lead in the match, but lost a close fourth set and the tie-breaker. 

Against Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, in a very tight match, the Gorloks won 25-23, 25-20, and 26-24 to end the tournament on a winning note.  Webster is now 18-11 overall on the season.

Jenny Howard (SR, Florissant, MO/Duchesne HS) was named to the Invitational All-Tournament team for her efforts in the four matches.  Jordan Vehlewald (SR, Wildwood, MO/Lafayette HS) finished the tournament with 76 digs, giving her 1587 digs and moving her into third place on Webster's career list.  She is taking aim on Crystal Shelton's (2004-07) total of 1649 that holds down the top spot.  Vehlewald also has 525 digs on the season, good enough for fourth place in a single season for Webster.  The Webster record of 603 was set by Sarah Bailey in 2010.

The Gorloks return home on October 28 to host Westminster College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown.  Webster and Westminster are both 13-2 in the SLIAC, tied for second place, one half game behind Spalding University (13-1).
