Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team defeated Greenville College, 1-0, on October 28 in Greenville, IL. With the win, the Gorloks improve to 7-0-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and, coupled with a Fontbonne University loss to Westminster College, clinch first place and the right to host the SLIAC Tournament. A pair of former Panthers led the Gorloks to victory.
Mike Wells (SR, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) had the lone goal for Webster, scoring on a penalty kick in the first half. Wells goal is all Webster would need to secure the win as the staunch Gorlok defense held once again. For Wells, who transferred to Webster after his freshman season at Greenville, it was his sixth goal of the year. He leads the team with 22 points.
Ian McReynolds (SR, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) recorded the shutout in goal for Webster. McReynolds picked up his fourth solo shutout of the season and has gone 369 straight minutes in the nets without allowing a goal. He improves to 5-4-2 on the season and lowered his goals against average on the year to 1.44 with the blanking. McReynolds transferred to Webster after playing three seasons at Greenville and appearing in 10 games for the Panthers.
The Gorloks have outscored their SLIAC opponents, 36-3, on the season, and have allowed only one goal in their last seven SLIAC matches. Webster is now 9-8-2 overall on the season.
Webster will host Fontbonne University on November 1 at the Soccer Park to end the regular season. Fontbonne ended the evening at 6-2 in the SLIAC and Westminster at 6-1-1. Webster holds the tie-breaker with Westminster with its win over the Blue Jays earlier this season. In 2013, the same three teams all tied for first at 8-1, but Westminster held the tie-breaker and hosted the tournament. The SLIAC Tournament will take place on November 6-8 at the Soccer Park.
