Box Score The Webster University softball team dropped a double dip to 14th-ranked Augustana College (IL), 6-0 and 11-1, on March 15 at Blackburn Park. The Gorlok offense, that was so prolific on a spring road trip to Florida the previous week, could only muster 12 hits and one run total on the afternoon.
Augustana broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning of game one, and would add two runs in the sixth and seventh. Samantha Powers (SR, Manchester, MO/John F. Kennedy HS) started on the mound and was sailing along until the fifth inning. She was chased after giving up four runs, and allowed nine hits and three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, striking out three. Powers took the loss and is 2-2 on the season.
Kallie Federhofer (JR, Lutheran South HS) was 2-3 in the game, providing half of the Gorlok four-hit attack. Federhofer would go 2-3 in game two also, lifting her season average to a team-high .458.
The Gorloks fared better at the plate in game two, banging out eight hits, but produced just one run in the 11-1 loss. Taylor Gibbs (JR, Alton, IL/Alton HS) was 2-3, and Rachel Franck (SO, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) was 2-3 with a SB. Franck is second on the team with a .429 batting average.
The Vikings raked three Webster pitchers for 12 total hits and 11 runs in game two. Franck started, going 2 1/3 innings, giving up five hits and five runs. Franck started and took the loss, falling to 2-2 for the season. Federhofer and Amber Sinamon (FR, St. Louis, MO/Affton HS) each allowed three runs in their stints on the mound in the game.
The Gorloks are 4-6 on the season. Webster is scheduled to play a doubleheader on March 16 at Blackburn Park vs. Loras College (IA).
