Softball Pounds Becker 16-3 To Gain Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Webster University softball team gained a split for the third straight day as the Gorloks fell to Lakeland College (WI), 9-7, and came back to pound Becker College (MA), 16-3, in the afternoon finale.  Molly Muntz (SR, Streator, IL/Streator HS) led the Webster attack on the afternoon, going 4-5, with four RBIs.

The Gorloks used a 14-hit attack to swarm Becker, a member of the New England Collegiate Conference, in five innings.  Muntz was 2-2, with three RBIs, and Taylor Gibbs (JR, Alton, IL/Alton HS) was 3-4, with two RBIs.  Kelley Bridgmon (SR, Imperial, MO/Seckman HS) chipped in offensively, going 3-4, with an RBI.

Samantha Powers (SR, Manchester, MO/John F. Kennedy HS) had a great game offensively and defensively.  Powers started on the mound and went all five innings, giving up just one earned run in gaining the win over the Hawks.  At the plate, Powers was 2-3, with three RBIs.

In the opener, the Gorloks led most of the way, but two unearned runs in the sixth were their undoing as they fell to Lakeland, 9-7.  The Muskies are a member of the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference.  Muntz was 2-2 with an RBI in the loss.  Rachel Franck (SO, McCluer North HS), who took the loss in relief, was 2-4 at the plate, with two RBIs.  Powers was 2-3, and Erin McGinnis (Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) continued her hot hitting on the trip, going 2-3.

The Gorloks have the day off on March 10 before concluding their eight-game Florida swing on March 11.  Webster will face the Westfield State University Owls, a member of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Lake Forest College (IL).  The Foresters are a member of the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Webster is 3-3 overall on the season.
