Gorloks 12-0 in SLIAC With 3-1 Win Over Greenville

Box Score The #3 Webster University baseball team ran its win streak to 14 with a 3-1 win over Greenville College, at GCS Ballpark on April 11.  Chris Jansen picked up his third win on the mound and Corey Lasky went deep for the second straight game in the victory.

The Gorloks, in first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, improved to 12-0 in league play and are 20-3 overall.

Jansen (JR, Cicero, IN/St. Joseph's College) went seven innings, allowing four hits and walking none, while striking out nine.  He is 3-1 on the season with the victory.  Jason Gray (SR, St. Louis, MO/Eureka HS), after Brett Buchanan (SR, Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook HS) pitched a scoreless eighth, picked up his fourth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Lasky (SR, Vernon Hills, IL/Adlai E Stevenson) had a leadoff bunt single in the first, but was forced at second on a grounder by Ryan Hall (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Eureka HS).  Hall came around to score on a double down the left field line by Taylor Stoulp (SR, St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's HS).

After a Lasky two-out solo home run in the second made it 2-0 Webster, former Gorlok Jared Storment cut the lead in half with his SLIAC-leading sixth home run in the fourth for Greenville.  Webster picked up an insurance run in the sixth when Jeff Kammer (JR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) has hit by a pitch, took third on a Joe Winckel (SR, Bonne Terre, MO/North County HS) single, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Kojs (SR, New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central HS).

It was a good defensive game on both sides.  The Gorloks cut down a run at the plate in the first when Charlie Gandolfi (JR, Mundelein, IL/Mundelein HS) ran down a Panther double and hit cutoff man shortstop Matt Wollnik (FR, Naperville, IL/Waubonsie Valley HS).  Wollnik threw a strike to catcher Zach Allam  (SO, Bloomington, IN/Edgewood HS) to nab the runner trying to score from first.

Greenville had an outstanding diving stop at third for a force out and a diving catch on the dead run by the Panther center fielder on a ball hit by Hall.

Webster travels to Greenville on Aprill 12 for a doubleheader to complete the three-game series.
