Gorloks Take Two from Spalding, Still Undefeated in SLIAC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Keeping its record a sparkling clean, 17-0, in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the #2 ranked Webster University baseball team took a doubleheader from Spalding University, 9-5 and 4-1, on April 19 at GCS Ballpark.  The Gorlok offense broke open game one, while starter Isaac Behme clamped down the Gorlden Eagles with a complete game victory in the nightcap.

The Gorloks pulled to a an 8-1 lead in the first four innings of game one, scoring one in the first, three in the third, and four in the fourth.  The four-run fourth included a two-run homer by Brett Buchanan (SR, Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook HS).  It was the second straight game Buchanan banged a two-run homer.

Chris Jansen (JR, Cicero, IN/St. Joseph's College) pitched a seven-inning complete game for the win.  Jansen allowed seven hits, two walks, and five runs as he improved to 4-1 on the year.  Jansen was rolling along, having allowed single runs in the third and sixth, before getting nicked for three runs in the seventh.

Outfielder Corey Lasky (SR, Vernon Hills, IL/Adlai E Stevenson HS) was 3-3, with three runs and a double.  Taylor Stoulp (SR, St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's HS), batting .462 on the year, was 2-3 with three RBIs, three runs, and a walk.  Ryan Hall (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Eureka HS) was 2-4, with two runs, and Buchanan 1-4, with a home run and two RBIs.

Behme (JR, Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg HS) handcuffed the Golden Eagles with just four hits, two walks, one run, and struck out 13.  He improved to 4-0 on the season.  He allowed his only run on a double and single in the Spalding fourth.  Over Behme's last five starts, in 36 2/3 innings, he has allowed 19 hits, walked 10, given up six runs, and struck out 40.

Jeff Kammer (JR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) put Webster up 1-0 in the second with his team-leading fifth home run.  Kammer also figured in a two-run fourth as he doubled home Stoulp, who had singled.  Kammer then came around to score on a two-out single by Max Morohashi (SO, Encino, CA/Campbell).  Webster added one more run in the seventh.

Kammer was 3-4, with a double, home run, two RBIs and two runs.  Lasky was 2-3, with an RBI, and wound up 5-6 on the night.  Stoulp was 2-4, with a run scored, going 4-7 in the double dip.    
 
The Gorloks are 25-4 overall on the season.  Webster completes the three-game series on Easter Sunday, April 20, at GCS Ballpark.  The Gorloks host Westminster College on April 23 for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader on April 23.
