Box Score 2 Getting off to a rough start on its four-game Iowa swing, the Webster University softball team lost a doubleheader to SLIAC newcomer Iowa Wesleyan, 11-10 and 10-5, on April 5 in Mt. Pleasant, IA. The Gorlok offense managed to score 15 runs, including two home runs by Taylor Gibbs, but pitching woes continue to plague them.
In game one the Webster offense grabbed a 6-2 lead early, but a nine-run fourth by Wesleyan sunk the Gorloks. Samantha Powers (SR, Manhester, MO/John F. Kennedy HS) took the loss for Webster as it fell, 11-10.
Molly Muntz (SR, Streator, IL/Streator HS) was 2-4 with four RBIs and Gibbs (JR, Alton, IL/Alton HS) was 2-4, blasting her first home run of the season, a three-run job. Rachel Franck (SO, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) was 2-5, with two RBIs, a stolen base, and a run.
In game two, freshman Alexis Spriggs (Scott City, MO/Scott City HS) took the loss on the mound in the 10-5 defeat. Offensively, Kallie Federhofer (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS), Kelley Bridgmon (SR, Imperial, MO/Seckman HS), and Powers were all 2-4 on the game.
Gibbs uncorked her second home run of the day, driving in two. Kristin McIntyre (FR, Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) was 2-3, and Franck was 1-3 with two RBIs.
Webster falls to 2-4 in the SLIAC and 6-10 overall. Wesleyan improves to 4-4 and 10-10 in its first year of softball in the SLIAC. Webster completes its trip to Iowa with a doubleheader vs. Central College. The Gorloks are back home for a doubleheader vs. Principia College (IL) on April 8 at Blackburn Park.
