Box Score 2 The Webster University softball team evened its record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 8-1, 14-0 (5 inn.) double dip over Principia College at Elsah, IL, on April 8. The Gorloks bats came alive and the team had good starting pitching efforts in both games as Webster swept.
In game one, the Gorloks had 2-1 lead before scoring three in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Molly Muntz (SR, Streator, IL/Streator HS) and Kallie Federhofer (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) singled, with Federhofer swiping second. Taylor Gibbs (JR, Alton, IL/Alton HS), who had a big night offensively, followed with a two-run double. Gibbs later scored on an error on the center fielder to make it 5-1.
In the sixth, Alison Stabenow (SO, Granite City, IL/Granite City HS) had a leadoff single and Rachel Franck (SO, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) reach on fielder's choice. A passed ball and an error on a ball hit by Erin McGinnis (SO, Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) scored Franck. After another passed ball, Muntz singled to score McGinnis. A Gibbs sacrifice fly scored Muntz and it was 8-1, Gorloks.
Federhofer was 3-3, with a double, stolen base, walk, RBI, and two runs scored. Muntz went 3-4 with three runs scored and Franck was 2-4, with a stolen base and RBI. Gibbs was 1-3, with three RBIs and a double.
Samantha Powers threw a complete game, going seven innings, allowing four hits and five walk. Powers allowed one run, struck out two, and improved to 4-5 on the season.
The Gorloks had another strong start on the mound
in game two as freshman Alexis Spriggs (Scott City, MO/Scott City HS) had a five-inning shutout. Spriggs allowed three hits and four walks, while striking out six, in picking up her first collegiate win. Spriggs is 1-1 on the year.
A nine-run third keyed the win for Webster. After hitting a solo home run to lead off the second, Gibbs highlighted the third inning with a three-run blast, her fifth home run in her last five games. Webster sent 12 batters to the plate and had nine hits.
Giibbs finished 3-4, with two home runs, five RBIs, and two runs. Gibbs is batting .377 on the season with a team-leading five home runs and 24 RBIs. She is tied for the SLIAC lead in home runs and third in RBIs.
Federhofer was 2-4, with an RBI and a run. She leads the team with a .482 batting average and is second on the team with 17 RBIs on the year. Federhofer ranks third in the SLIAC in batting average.
Franck was 2-4, with two RBIs and two runs. Franck is hitting .449 on the year with 16 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Kelley Bridgmon (SR, Imperial, MO/Seckman HS) was 2-3, with a double, triple, and two runs. Freshman Kristin McIntyre (Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) was 2-3, with two runs, an RBI and stolen base.
Webster had 16 hits in the game and 28 on the evening. The Gorloks are hitting .358 as a team on the season, the second highest average in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks are 4-4 in the SLIAC and 8-12 overall, snapping a 6-game losing streak with the wins. Webster travels to Carlinville, IL, on April 10 for a doubleheader vs. Blackburn College.
