Webster Falls in Home Opener, 3-2, to Rhodes

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team dropped its home opener, 3-2, to Rhodes College (TN), on August 29, at the Soccer Park.  Falling behind 3-1, the Gorloks made it interesting with a free kick goal by Brendan Shields with 27 minutes left in the contest to inch within one, but couldn't net the game tying goal.

Rhodes opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game when a shot deflected by Webster goalkeeper Brian Woodward (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) was tapped in for a 1-0 Lynx lead.  Sophomore Dino Music (St. Louis, MO/Mehlville HS) tied the game up for the Gorloks with a blast off a free kick just outside the box at the 29:00 minute mark.

The Lynx came back with another goal seven minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room at half.  Rhodes extended the lead to 3-1, scoring on a short breakaway on a through ball at 59:00 in the second.

Shields (SO, St. Peter's, MO/Ft. Zumwalt East HS) cut the lead to one for Webster with a free kick from 25 yards out, that just snuck under the crossbar at the 63:00 minute mark.
Webster outshot Rhodes, 12-10, with both teams having seven shots on goal.  The corner kicks were three apiece for both teams and Woodward had four saves as he took the loss.

The Gorloks are right back in action at the Soccer Park on August 30 as they take on Edgewood College (WI) at 7:00 p.m.
