Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team lost in overtime, 3-2, to visiting Illinois Wesleyan University, on September 25 at the Soccer Park. The Titans scored with 1:31 remaining in the first overtime session to dash the Gorloks' hope of ending its winless streak.
The Titans scored the game-winner when a loose ball in the Webster end was headed back to goalkeeper Ian McReynolds (SR, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) by a Gorlok defender. The ball bounced short and a Titan forward tapped it over McReynolds' head and another Wesleyan forward punched it in for the game winner.
The Gorlok offense took the lead twice in the contest, relying on the "Mehlville Connection", Dino Music and Dzani Delic, for both goals. A Music (St. Louis, MO/Mehlville HS) blast on a free kick, just under the crossbar at 41:03, gave Webster a 1-0 first-half lead. For Music, it was his second goal of the season. The lead was short lived as the Titans scored at 44:23, with just 37 seconds remaining in the half. A Wesleyan player took a pass at the Gorloks' six-yard line and scored to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second half, Delic (FR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville HS) controlled a long clearing boot by a Webster defender. Delic juked out a lone Titan defender and shot the ball into the left corner of the goal, out of reach of the Wesleyan keeper, at 66:11. It was Delic's second goal of the season as well. Wesleyan tied it up nine minutes later at 75:17, and after an uneventful final 15 minutes of play in regulation, the contest headed into overtime.
Over their last eight games, the Gorloks have lost six and tied two during that stretch. Webster is 2-8-1 overall on the season.
The Wesleyan game concluded the Gorloks non-conference schedule. Webster opens play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, travelling to Mt. Pleasant, IA, to take on Iowa Wesleyan College on September 27. Webster has a week off before playing at Eureka College (IL) on October 4.
