The Webster University men's basketball team won the first of two games at the Cruzin' Classic, defeating Trinity Baptist College 71-63. The Gorloks raced to a 40-21 advantage at the half and they were 'cruzin' to victory on December 19 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Hunter Ward had a game-high 26 points in the game.
Ward (JR, Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood HS) was 10-12 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point territory, and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds as well. C.J. Moore (JR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) had 13 points in the game. Xavier Dortch (JR, Stockton, AL/Faulkner State CC) came off the bench to add 11 points.
The Gorloks shot 15-31 (48%) in the first half, getting off 12 more shots than the Eagles' 19. Webster finished at 27-59 (46%) for the game. Trinity Baptist had a hot hand in the second half, shooting at a 57% clip (16-28) but it wasn't enough to overcome Webster's 19-point advantage at the break.
Webster handed out 18 assists for its 27 baskets on the afternoon. The Gorloks had a slight edge on the boards by outrebounding the Eagles, 34-28, including 11-3 on the offensive end. Webster forced 23 turnovers by Trinity Baptist in the game.
Trinity Baptist, located in Jacksonville, FL, is an National Christian College Athletic Association member.
Webster is 4-4 with the win and concludes play in the Cruzin' Classic with a game vs. Ave Maria University (FL) on December 20. The Gorloks following game will be in 2016, on January 2 as they take on SLIAC rival Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL.
